Leading at the Intersection of IT and Manufacturing Operations

My leadership approach has been shaped by working where IT decisions directly affect production output, order fulfillment, and customer commitments. Over the last several years, particularly during periods of supply chain disruption, we have had to scale production quickly while relying on systems that could not afford to fail. Those moments reinforced a simple reality. In manufacturing, IT is inseparable from operations.

At Beltservice, technology touches nearly every step of the value chain, from production planning and inventory visibility to logistics coordination and customer delivery timelines. That proximity to operations has driven me to prioritize reliability, clarity, and speed of response over unnecessary complexity. The measure of success is not whether a system is modern or sophisticated, but whether it helps teams do their work more effectively under real world constraints.

Balancing Infrastructure Stability with Innovation.

Manufacturing environments demand discipline. Core infrastructure must be stable, standardized, and predictable. Downtime has immediate operational and financial consequences. For that reason, I treat foundational systems as critical assets that require strong governance, consistent processes, and clear ownership.

At the same time, standing still is not an option. Innovation must happen, but it needs the right structure. I favor a deliberate separation of concerns. One track is dedicated to operational stability and uptime, while another focuses on experimentation and iteration. This dual speed approach allows us to explore areas such as automation, data analytics, and AI without putting production systems at risk. Innovation moves faster, but with guardrails that respect the realities of a manufacturing operation.

Modernizing Legacy Systems Without Disrupting Operations

The hardest part of modernizing legacy systems is rarely the technology itself. It is the dependency the business has built around it. Over time, older platforms become deeply woven into production workflows, often supported by institutional knowledge rather than documentation. That makes change feel risky, especially when downtime is unacceptable.

 In manufacturing, IT lives on the plant floor and in the supply chain, not in isolation. My focus has been on keeping systems dependable and practical, while making sure every technology decision earns its place by improving how we actually operate. 

At Beltservice, successful modernization has required patience and trust. We take a phased approach that starts with understanding how work actually gets done on the floor and in the office. Stakeholder alignment, clear communication, and incremental progress are essential. I have found it is just as important to respect what has been working for years as it is to introduce new capabilities. The goal is evolution, not disruption.

Aligning IT Strategy with Measurable Business Outcomes

True alignment starts with shared language. IT leaders cannot lead with tools or platforms. We must lead with outcomes. That means talking about throughput, efficiency, risk reduction, cost control, and customer experience, and tying technology initiatives directly to those objectives.

I work closely with functional leaders to understand their priorities and constraints, then shape IT initiatives around measurable results. Clear governance and prioritization ensure we focus on work that moves the business forward, not just what is technically interesting. When IT is aligned properly, it becomes a force multiplier, supporting growth while strengthening operational discipline

Evolving from Systems Management to Business Enablement

The role of the IT leader is changing. As cloud platforms, integrated data, and AI become more accessible, the expectation is no longer just to keep systems running, but to help the business make better decisions. That includes enabling reliable data access, improving visibility across operations, and ensuring security and governance keep pace with complexity.

At Beltservice, this shift has meant spending less time purely managing systems and more time working with business teams to identify where technology can remove friction or unlock capacity. IT leadership today is less about control and more about orchestration, aligning people, processes, and technology in a way that delivers practical, sustainable value.
