Polycom Announces Various Video Solutions Support for Microsoft Unified Communications
FREMONT, CA: Microsoft was a late entrant into the unified communication market. Soon, the company has jumped from relative obscurity to the No.2 market share vendor. Now it offers a robust premises-based solution with Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and burgeoning cloud service within Office 365.
Polycom and Microsoft have announced plans to explore the reach of Skype for business meetings to enable Polycom customers leverage their existing video collaboration solutions as they move to Microsoft 365 and Skype for Business environments. During his keynote, Microsoft Skype Business Services Corporate Vice President Zig Serafin announced plans to expand Skype Meeting room solutions to broader endpoints. With Polycom, Microsoft customers can be benefitted as in complete solution which spans voice, video, instant messaging, content sharing, and presence.
“Uniting Skype for Business in Office 365 with Polycom’s high-quality audio and video solutions gives customers the most complete collaboration toolkit for the modern workplace,” said Zig Serafin, Corporate Vice President, and Skype for Business.
Polycom’s widely deployed ‘RealPresence Group Series’ solution, used for meetings of all kinds—from huddle rooms to immersive telepresence rooms— is now qualified to run on Skype for Business Service and supported on Office 365. Customers can use the Polycom client or a new Skype for Business like UI on the RealPresence Touch device. Additionally, Polycom is also in the process of Rigel certifying its CX5100 and new RealPresence Trio products.
Lastly, many Microsoft customers are looking to bridge heterogeneous solution environments as they move to Office 365. The two vendors also announced that Polycom will deliver an industry-first, cloud-based video interoperability service, hosted in the Microsoft Cloud. This enables Office 365 customers to leverage their existing video investments and connect to other video vendors, such as rival Cisco. Also, the service will offer the capabilities of RealConnect technology and provides users of Skype for Business and non-Microsoft endpoints to have a Skype like user experience.
